CUSO-VSO supports the 1GOAL 'Education for All' campaign

For the first time ever, the FIFA World Cup is taking place in Africa, and millions of people will be focused on the continent.

To seize this opportunity, FIFA has joined with the Global Campaign for Education to leave a legacy of education across the world through the support of millions of World Cup fans.

CUSO-VSO believes education beats poverty. That's why the organization has joined with some of soccer's greatest players and millions of people from across the globe. We have one goal: to help the children around the world who are missing out on a primary education get one. Across Canada, CUSO-VSO staff and volunteers will be telling people about 1GOAL and the campaign for education for all.

Education is one of CUSO-VSO's priorities. Right now, we have 38 volunteers abroad in 14 countries working on teacher training and educational support and management.

Today, 72 million children in the world are denied the chance to go to school. These children could be our next generation’s leaders, sports stars, doctors and teachers. But they face a lifelong struggle against poverty. It doesn’t have to be this way. When children – especially girls – have school doors opened to them, the creativity, energy and economic potential of the entire population is added to the development equation. Countries with more educated populations generally enjoy higher rates of economic growth and less inequality.

CUSO-VSO believes that together we can make education a reality for the millions of girls and boys who remain out-of-school. Add your name to the campaign, and help create a united global voice and encourage world leaders to place education at the top of their agenda. We are asking soccer fans and everyone who believes that education beats poverty to sign up for 1GOAL.
